Fortune Aniceta Lady - Solanir
Chapter One: The Weakest Among Us
Fortune had always felt like an outsider compared to her peers. She had no physical strength, and strength was important at this time as they were preparing for war against the worshippers of the god Noctyros, "the night that unravels all." This god had the ability to turn anyone into a traitor by looking directly into his third eye.Unfortunately, Fortune failed her training for the sixth time and was now classed as the weakest person in her area. She was bullied by people her age, and the older generations turned a blind eye, as Fortune was seen as useless to their people.During an encounter with bullies, Fortune ran off in fear into the woods to hide. Given her small frame, she was able to duck and hide easily. She ended up sliding into a hole in the side of a mountain, assuming it was a small cave entrance, narrowly escaping the bullies who never noticed the hole in the rock. She stumbled into one of the old temples of Solanir, "the light that stands beside creation." She used an old box of matches to light one of the candles in the temple to guide her way through. As she lit the candle, the room illuminated, revealing a statue that seemed to be multiple people melting into each other. She continued through the temple and came across old books and scrolls about the god and how they could grant powers of arcane ability, far greater than anything known, where the light defeats the darkness.
Chapter Two: The Light in the Dark
Fortune had been told by her elders that magic wasn't real and that strength was the only way to succeed in life. These scrolls proved them wrong.Fortune began studying the books and scrolls, emerging from the temple only to practise her magic and forage for food. She spent the next seven months trying to appease the god and improve her arcane abilities. But things weren’t going to plan. She was only able to conjure simple weapons, weak shields, and fragile armour, nothing compared to the tools her people already had. Still, Fortune was determined to prove to everyone that she was one of them.
Chapter Three: When Darkness Comes
Two years later, darkness fell. Noctyros had found them. Chaos erupted in the village. She could hear yelling and screaming, fighting and destruction. She had to help.Without thinking, she ran through the trees and right into the middle of the chaos. In the past two years, Fortune had improved her arcane and fighting skills exponentially, becoming stronger than anyone could have imagined. She joined the fight, slaying all Children of the Night in her path, using her light to drive the darkness away. Noctyros was not pleased with the power Fortune had acquired and descended to fight her himself. Fortune did not see this coming. She held her ground at first, but Noctyros grew impatient. He opened his third eye, stunning Fortune in an almost hypnotic spell, draining the light from her. He threw her aside to be consumed by the Children of the Night, amidst the ruins of what was once her village and home.Fortune thought all hope was lost. She sat among the rubble, weeping. Darkness had truly overtaken the light.
Chapter Four: A Song Remembered
As she cried, she recited teachings from the scrolls she had read, repeating her vow to protect her people, even though they had shunned her. She felt disappointed in herself for not being enough. She remembered entering the cave for the first time, seeing the statue, the books, the scrolls, and feeling safe. Feeling at home. Then, there was a hum. A song she had heard before, though she didn’t know where. She hummed back. A strange sense of calm and warmth filled her. And things seemed brighter. Literally. Light was coming from her chest, and from her tears. She could feel Solanir’s presence. As the song came to an end, she opened her eyes. She saw herself standing before her, but different. Glowing. With wings, fangs, and floating. Glowing embers drifted around her, and she moved as if suspended in water. Ethereal. Goddess-like.As she swam through the air, Fortune felt a sense of familiarity. It wasn’t exactly her, but it wasn’t entirely someone else either.Fortune shifted through emotions.
Shock. Happiness. Hope. This version of herself was a mixture of Solanir and her. The person Fortune had dedicated herself to become.Fortune reached out and guided the apparition toward her. As it drifted closer, their foreheads touched. They caressed each other's heads in a tender moment as the light lifted her. Fortune began to float from the ground, fully immersed in the light and warmth Solanir gave her.As they ascended together, hands on each other’s faces, gazing into each other’s eyes, Fortune no longer saw Solanir. She saw herself.A wave of warmth washed over them as they embraced. A bright light erupted from their unity, forcing Noctyros to recoil, temporarily blinded. As the light faded, there were no longer two beings.
There was only one.
Chapter Five: The Final Trial
Fortune now floated in the sky, bearing the physical appearance of the apparition. She had become the embodiment of light. Her eyes glowed golden, and her limbs left trails of gold behind her as she swam through the air, getting a feel for her new form, as Solanir experienced her new body.Noctyros recovered and barrelled forward to destroy the light Fortune produced. As he approached, she reached to her hip and summoned a great hammer, swinging it into Noctyros’s face and knocking him off course. They battled again, but this time, Fortune had the upper hand.As the battle wore on and both were exhausted, Fortune remembered. If it hadn’t been for Noctyros, her people wouldn’t have needed to train to be strong. She would never have been shunned. No one would have died.As Noctyros lay on the ground, she summoned every last ounce of light into a glowing sphere above her head. She chanted the words from the scrolls,
"The light that stands beside creation."And she threw the sphere down upon Noctyros, ending his reign of darkness.
Chapter Six: Fortune Reborn
When the dust settled, she realised it was all for nothing. Noctyros had already destroyed all life on her planet. She had no choice but to travel through light, moving between planets and dimensions, trying to find somewhere to belong.Eventually, she settled in a new place, choosing to live as herself. No longer afraid to be different. No longer afraid of the dark.Fortune is now Solanir.
And Solanir is now Fortune.
One being, with the goal of spreading light.
